I probably shouldn't be allowed to adult.

Life is so…funny. It can definitely be a whirlwind in the moment, but I feel when you take a step back and reflect, you can’t help but chuckle a little. Things turn out so differently than originally planned; life turns in such unexpected directions; you find yourself on a path you never once could have fathomed before. The anxiety and uncertainty can become all-consuming at times. And yet, you are still ok.
It is the quality of your life that is dictated by how well you weather the storm and tend to the damages afterwards, but in the end, you really can handle everything that is thrown at you.
You just have to believe in yourself.

I met someone over the weekend who has made a very interesting impact on me. Peculiar, really. Through the simple act of watching him do simple chores around his apartment, I became Inspired.
Maybe it was his relaxed demeanor, but I suddenly felt the desire to do better by me. He just made it all look so…simple. Something just kind of clicked into place.
Make your bed, do your laundry, prepare yourself for the day, take care of yourself.
Sometimes it’s hard to take care of yourself when you’re in the thick of the fog, but perhaps the only way to push through it is to actually push. I’ve been wading in the waters of doubt, uncertainty, and anxiety, but I haven’t been helping myself.
Maybe it was also because he was a genuinely cool person, and in those odd moments of clarity when I watched him, it made me assess myself as a person and what I have to offer to others: friends, family, and intimate relationships alike. I found him to be very put together: he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and he seems pretty accomplished as well.
I value so much in other people the things I feel myself lacking: the confidence to be unapologetically themselves, the courage to take daring risks and follow their dreams, the motivation to do and inspire others to do. For whatever strange reason I found it incredibly admirable that he was a man capable of getting to work and completing the task at hand (perhaps also a little because I myself struggle with doing my own household chores?).
Maybe it was even because I know deep down I keep looking toward outside influences to affect a change in me, and something about him doing his every day tasks without any external prompting kind of grounded me.
It sounds stupid and a little crazy, but I guess I just have to appreciate that inspiration can find me through even the strangest or simplest of situations.
I think it’s time I become my own light in the dark.
I recently decided to delete social media from my phone. This isn’t the first time I have taken this extreme step, and knowing myself, it probably won’t be the last time either. In the time since being unemployed, I have found it a struggle to keep myself together, and social media only exacerbates the problem.
I find myself wasting the first hour, if not more, of my morning browsing Facebook, Instagram, and Tubmlr as soon as I wake up. Facebook is the main culprit: after my morning binge, I find myself sporadically throughout the day losing more and more time to it than I realize in the moment. I’ll look up from my phone and another hour has slipped past me. Continue reading “Social Media, I bid you adieu”
